Planning a wedding in a city you've never been to, in the middle of a global pandemic, isn't the easiest task, but our vendors made it feel effortless.

Leading up to the big day, we traveled to Asheville, NC twice, mostly as an excuse to get out of the house. We loved the time that we got to spend with each of our vendors, who so quickly welcomed us into their community.

Shannon: "As Beth has mentioned, shopping small and shopping local is important to us. Even for our Ohio Wedfemale-owned vendors who were female-owned, Ohio made, or independently owned. Planning a wedding in NC was no different. I intend to support women, the LGBT community, Black owners, and families.

Weddings are about your intentions to each other, and your choices to build that day's environment, for me, needed that same intent. Working with our vendors was truly a dream, and each one of them made our day.

We rented a Leceister Airbnb, Mount Airy Estates, for our 14 guests to join us for the weekend for our wedding weekend. It was the most magical experience to bring Shannon and my worlds together and see so much love shared between our family and friends. The entire experience felt so authentic to our love that even now, almost six weeks later, sometimes we look at each other and start recalling some of our favorite moments. Hanging out in the hot tub, drinking coffee while the sun came up over the mountains, drinks by the fire, hammock naps, not-so-athletic tennis matches, porch, and board games; it was so wonderful.

Our wedding day was magical.

Though it seemed to fly by in a fury, it was everything we could have asked for and more. We were honored to be married by Shannon's aunt while also creating a ceremony that allowed us space to express our love. Shannon worked so hard to curate community experience among our family and friends thoughtfully, and it presented most beautifully. I remember looking around in a moment of peace during dinner, seeing people I love so much laughing, smiling, and telling stories.

They are moments that will fill Shannon and my hearts for lifetimes to come. We are so thankful to Asheville, and more specifically Canaan Valley and our vendors, for welcoming us and our loved ones with a level of hospitality that couldn't be matched.

Since the wedding

Shannon and I have been keeping busier than ever. We're currently raising Penny, a Pilot Dog who will live with us until she's a year old. At that time, she'll return to Pilot Dogs to begin her official training to become a companion to a person with a visual impairment. We've also been renovating our home room by room and still spending too much time and money at Target. Even though our lives and relationships continue to change and evolve, some things will always remain the same.
